Leids Harmonieorkest

Welcome to the most sparkling music association in Leiden, the symphonic wind orchestra Leids Harmonieorkest (Leiden Wind Orchestra).

On November 24 we celebrate our 75 year anniversary with a concert in de Regenboogkerk. Pictures of the event are found here.

Our orchestra was founded in 1949 and has been part of Leiden's music culture ever since.

The Leids Harmonieorkest is a podium orchestra, performing a varied repertoire of both classical and modern compositions for wind orchestra.

We generally look for unusual, original and seldomly heard wind pieces for concert band with an aim to contributing to the rediscovery and revival of fantastic music for symphonic band.

We hold regular concerts at various venues in - and sometime out of - Leiden throughout the year.

Pictures of the jubileum concert on November 24, 2024

On November 24th we celebrated our 75th anniversary with a concert in the Regenboogkerk. The audience enjoyed, among others, Adriaan Kramer who performed in the trumpet concerto of Alexander Arutiunian.

After the concert we had dinner together. As a dessert, a small group of members surprised us and performed some with cheerful contemporary music pieces.

The Leids Harmonie Orkest moves to De Thermiek

As long as memory lasts, the orchestra has rehearsed in the Youth Village in Leiden South. However, this idyllic park will become an industrial area, so we had to find a new location. We are very happy that the school De Thermiek allows us to use their auditorium for our rehearsals. Starting from September 4, 2024, our weekly Wednesday 20:00 rehearsal address is:

De Thermiek, Blauwe Vogelweg 1, 2333 VK Leiden.

75 year Leids Harmonie Orkest

Today we celebrate your 75th birthday. In 1949, the catholic Leidse Harmoniekapel was founded. After breaking with the Catholic Church, the name was changed to the Leidse Harmonie Orkest.

A sun-baded concert at Liberation Day in De Leidse Hout

On May 5, 13:30 the Leids Harmonie Orkest opened the musical season of the Waterlieconcerts in De Leidse Hout. These concerts are organized by Vrienden van De Leidse Hout. Due to a nice sun and almost windless conditions, many people showed up to listen and enjoy our music. Next year we must remember to bring some WD40 for the swings in the playing garden ...

The spring concert with Excelsior Pijnacker was exciting !

The concert with Excelsior Pijnacker last Sunday had a lot of attention: we sold more tickets than available seats. Nevertheless enjoyed all guests the performance to the last tone. Tribute to both orchestras and our shared director Harry Tazelaar.
